It's a nice size for larger parties of 20, I would call them first to reserve a table though if your coming with 10 or more people.

Not sure how many this holds but it's LOVELY decor and walk to the back and look out the window at the kids tobogganing.

I was all excited to see the art work on the walls, it's fabulous..

this is the way we ended up coming from Hwy #20, Victoria Ave way...You would come this way if your driving from Fort Erie, Welland, Pelham, Port Colborne or Thorold, Ontario Canada.

It goes into 2 "S" Bends here keep to the right or you'll get lost :)

Then it crosses over Pelham Rd and becomes... Fifth Ave...
Yeah I SHOULD have checked the website first.

Linny the great detective - direction finder decided to take ST Paul West route because she wanted to get a photo of the cool silver giraffe metal welded art work on top of a building that is on the corner of St Paul West and Vansickle Rd in St Catharines Ontario Canada.

She knew that Hernder Estates Winery was close by but.. instead of turning left onto Fifth Avenue (Big sign there for Hernder nothing for White Meadows) she ARGUED with Harry and said let's keep going and look for Effingham St..

30 minutes later we end up on hwy#8 in vineland and realize there is NO Effingham St.

We go up the mountain on Victoria Ave, then back up Hwy#20 and find Effingham St and back track to find out that at Pelham Rd, Effingham St turns into Fifth Avenue.

Go figure...
Next time Linny will LISTEN to Harry and her gut instincts (ignored them out of pure stubborness lol)

Mom and Dad bought me my first pair of skates at the age of 8.
I used them 3 times.

After falling mercilessly on my ass over and over again, I gave up.

I pretty much ate half of the pancake then realized I needed to have a picture taken so I gave the camera to Harry and he took a good photo this time. As you know Harry's first attempts at taking photos of me, he usually cut off the head in the photo and i'd have have a scalp. LOL

It looks like a LONG LONG walk to the back.
We tried to find the sappy trees but my impatient escorts Clyde and Harry outnumbered me.
The distant rumble of tummies wanting Chinese food won the battle and Linny had to go...
But she's planning to return in Feb 2011 when the sap begins to drop out of the trees into the silver buckets that they hang on the trees.

Then inside the pancake house is sugar factory contraption that makes syrup and candies and all sorts of yummy treats that Linny wants to buy....

Harry was kind of miserable we were supposed to be going for Chinese Food (North China Buffet video is created and photos coming soon!) so he wasn't too happy about me wanting to stop and savor this delicious pancake.

I can be a real stubborn OX when I want to do something and you complain.. I take twice as long just to be a pain in the ass LOL

He was not amused.... and I got it on CAMERA ha ha ha..

call him grumpy but he's usually a happy go lucky sort of guy.. I just got him at a bad moment LOL

the next photos is a better picture of the lovely car in the back ground, can you tell what year it is under all that snow?

Clyde had a sweet maple flavored pepperoni in his pocket which he just bought at the sugar shack on the farm here.  And suddenly he gets this little friend looking up at him.

I yelled at both Clyde and Harry not to feed the dog just in case he has diabetes or something.  I told them to go and ask permission before giving the dog any treats.  People don't think about that.

Another lady who had a camera and was taking photos of her family skating and tobogganing was telling them the dog would be okay and to just feed it.

Imagine hundreds of tourists feeding this dog each time he came up to them?

He would gain about 30 lbs in a month in no time..

Sweet temperament he was so friendly and quiet.. Loved him ..

We had a lovely time here when we went to see if the sap was coming out of the Maple trees and as fate would have it, I came at the wrong time again!

I went there last year in march and found out I had missed everything.

This time I have to wait until Feb 19th which isn't so bad.

I did.
I'm trying to exercise more and eat less junk food.

A good way to start is eating where there's a good salad bar.

Helen's Deli is in the heart of downtown St Catharines, Ontario Canada.

Within 30 minutes of Buffalo New York - via the Rainbow Bridge - Niagara Falls Ontario.

Same goes for Niagara on the Lake,Welland, Thorold, Grimsby, Beamsville, Jordan and Fort Erie
.
Hamilton,Burlington, Oakville, Toronto's Downtown CNE, Theme Park Wonderland are all within 1.5 hours of Helen's Deli via QEW Niagara, to 406 HWY, head east off of Fourth Ave which turns into Welland Ave.  Turn right at the lights (the big tank - Lake Street Armoury) take the left side of the Y road formation (James Street) and it's about 3 blocks up on the left side. (just past the St Catharines Public Library, Tim Horton's, Carousel Players, Market Square, across from Stella's Fine Dining Restaurant).



You can come and eat inside too.  They keep morning and early afternoon hours there.

I'm too lazy to shift the keys.  It's 11 12 am and I am NOT awake. I was up till 4 am last night blogging DJ music tunes for my fellow writers to listen too while they work on their articles and manuscripts.

Notice the array of european goods from the old country.  You can even find women who speak various European languages here.  I forget what kind?  I think it was Polish, German, maybe Russian and Czechoslovakian?
Not sure, so don't quote me on that.

This is a continuation of my previous post.  So Helen's Deli originally opened in 1974 and it's had more than one owner.  I think the current owners are the one's that started the HUGE salad bar here..

We were talking about all the people that have retired over the years.  Places were we used to eat.  There was the Sunset Restaurant on St Paul Street which is now some sort of Chinese Restaurant - American Food.  Then there was the Delta Restaurant on Queenston Street beside the Bingo Hall and Pete's Pizza. They closed down after the city's construction blitz in that area killed many businesses.

I hate to say it but the reconstruction of St Paul Street and surrounding areas killed a lot of old businesses, either that or they just decided it was time to retire and left without a goodbye.

The Delta used to make the best malt milkshakes.  They were there for over 40 years.  My parents went on a date there back in the early 60s.  They brought me in there as a babe and the lady thought I was a little doll... a toy because I was so small and pink. lol

They had these cool juke box machines.  You'd put a quarter in and play some oldies but goodies tunes.  I miss that place.  I used to go there as an adult and write.  I had my first job around the corner at the Real Estate Advertiser when I was only 20 years old.

I did proof reading for Real Estate adds.  Joann was the boss and she used to complain that I thought I was Miss America because I dressed like a Fashion Model - Diva.  I couldn't help it.  I was living at home and my mother liked to dress like a Hollywood Movie Star.  She did the same for me.

Now I dress like a bum - a beach bum. lol

1 St Paul St, Ontario St and St Paul West  St Catharines ON you know you can take 10 pictures of the same corner and get something different each time?  Yeah people and cars lol

If you walk towards the St Paul West Bridge you will find two interesting things on the right.  A memorial for war veterans and the old Merritt Residence which now houses a radio station Hits 97.7 FM.

I can't seem to find the photos of the memorial thing but I'm sure I'll come across them.
